Note: This COP is relevant to participants wishing to explore “challenging behaviour”
Interactions with children and families inform early childhood professionals’ knowledge of children’s distinctive interests, skills, cultures, and abilities. This is crucial to providing positive experiences and a safe and stimulating environment that will encourage children to expand their capacities and deepen their knowledge and understandings. Description
This COP invites participants to reflect on the effectiveness of their relationships with children and families and consider the impact on children’s wellbeing, resilience, behaviour and learning capabilities. Elements to investigate will be directed by participants, some possibilities may include:
- Supporting children to develop self-regulation – to learn about negotiation, collaboration, problem solving, conflict resolution and listening to each other’s perspectives.
- Providing learning environments that are responsive to each child, support sustained engagement and promote collaborative learning.
- Respecting families’ choices when it goes against evidence-based pedagogy e.g. when a parent says they don’t want play based learning for their child.
