CoP 24 | Investigating the VEYLDF Early Years Planning Cycle

Note: This COP is relevant to participants wishing to explore planning, observation and curriculum decision making

The Early Years Planning Cycle (EYPC) outlines the process that early childhood professionals use, in partnership with families and other professionals, to collect, analyse, plan, act, and reflect on evidence of learning and development. Questioning and analysis informs planning and practice decisions so that what is planned has meaning and is worth children knowing and doing. VEYLDF p.8

Description

The EYPC guides us through a process of reflection that drives our pedagogy and planning decisions. This COP invites participants to focus on one, or all of the steps within the EYPC to enhance their practice. Elements to investigate will be directed by participants, some possibilities may include:

  • How do I determine what observations are meaningful and where else might I collect information about the child?
  • How do I question and analyse the child’s learning and make decisions or plan what they are ready to learn next?
  • How might I use the EYPC to challenge practice and routines that aren’t working well in our program?
